Dionysus, also known as Bacchus, is the Greek God of wine, theater and madness. He is the son of Zeus and Semele, and spent most of his time as a mortal teaching the people the art of winemaking.
History[]
Early cults portrayed Dionysus as an androgynous person, followed by wild maenads, and satyrs. Quickly this cult grew, and he became a part of the Eleusinian Mysteries, along with Demeter and Persephone. He also was the chief deity in Orphism, a cult created by Orpheus.
